According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has now raked in $490 million domestically and $532.5 million internationally to reach the $1 billion milestone. This past weekend–its fourth since releasing in North America–the film made another projected $40 million to top the box office once more.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now Universal’s best-performing animated flick domestically, surpassing another Illumination project in Minions: The Rise of Gru. THR adds that it’s also the seventh-highest grossing film worldwide for Universal as well, topping Jurassic World: Dominion and Despicable Me (another Illumination joint).

A week ago, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was nearing $900 million globally. The film finally released in Japan this past weekend to add more juice to its international haul. Mario creator and movie producer Shigeru Miyamoto offered quite an intriguing take on the film’s success, noting that he believes low review scores assisted in notoriety for the flick.
